Japanese swords

Welcome to my site and its new home. Those who visited the old site will notice that I have considerably expanded the range of items and services available. The links on the left will take you to the various pages.

I am a collector with a background in both martial arts and swordmaking. My background in martial arts does rather affect my view of the swords and polearms that I sell. As a result, if you want a sword for martial arts rather than for collecting, let me know. I can quite appreciate your perspective

If you are interested in buying a sword but can't find the one you want here, contact me and let me know your budget. If you want to sell a sword, either outright or on consignment, call me.

If you are interested in buying a sword but can't find the one you want here, or are unsure of exactly what you want, contact me and let me know your budget. If you want to be on my mailing list and get first refusal on new swords, click the link on the menu to the left.

Some purchasers may be considering Japanese swords as an investment. If you are, let me know. Most sword collectors don’t bother too much about this aspect of collecting; they just love the blades and love studying them. Nevertheless, it has to be remarked that swords in top polish and with kanteisho by the NTHK or NBTHK have increasingly become investment opportunities. This may well become more marked in the current economic climate. Such swords have, over the last 40 years, outperformed nearly all other forms of investment. Swords with Juyo papers are particularly stable, whilst gendaito are rapidly increasing in value. This is unsurprising, considering that the supply of gendaito and antique nihonto will decrease with time. On the other hand, interest in shinsakuto – modern swords made in the traditional manner – has also recently picked up. These will become the antiques of the future.

I also sell both reproduction and antique components for restoring swords. If you don’t see what you want, ask. If you are looking to restore a sword yourself, and are unsure how to go about it again, ask. It may save you a lot of time, money and disappointment. If you don’t want to do the job yourself, contact me; I can find you good craftsmen to undertake whatever job you have in mind, whether that's building koshirae or polishing a sword.

Anything else you need, just ask. I may be able to get it for you.

Finally, and for the benefit of UK customers, everything here is exempt from the recent ban on ‘samurai swords’. This ban excludes antiques, genuine Japanese swords made after 1954, swords used for re-enactment, or swords used by bona fide martial artists. Again for the benefit of UK customers, you have to be over 18 to buy any of the swords on this site.

Right, you've read the guff. Now enjoy the site!
