Religious Menuki

The best reproduction menuki available. These are reproductions of historical menuki made to museum quality, and with a silver base unless specifically indicated otherwise. The silver base is then either patinated (antique silver), blackened, plated with jewellery standard gold plate, or a combination of these techniques plus, occasionally, copper plate (multiplate).

099 Kirin. Kirin are the most difficult menuki to find. These mythical animals are the offspring of a cow and a dragon, and comprise of a horse's body, a dragon's head and the tail of a shi-shi. This set is available in Multiplate only. Tanto and wakizashi size only, as it would be slightly too small for a Katana. £170.00


017 Mount Fuji. Made in black & gold, and topped off with the mountain top of highly polished silver, this Mount Fuji menuki set is one of the oldest and most popular menuki that we have. 1.8 inches (45 mm) long. £170.00




018 Mount Fuji and the Golden Pagoda. This katana sized menuki displays a heavy treeline with a snow topped Mount Fuji and a Golden Pagoda in the background. A great bargain. 2.8 inches (71 mm) long. £170.00



030 Temple Guardians. Available either in blackened silver or, as shown above, plated with 24K gold. These menuki are best used on katana sized swords only. 1.75 inches (45 mm) long.

083 Gokosho (Sanskrit: Vajra) or double lightning bolt. The gokosho is a ritual implement in esoteric Buddhism (Mikkyo), the chief branches of which are Shingon and Tendai. Implements such as the gokosho are placed on an altar or are held by a celebrant in order to sanctify the space, to symbolize the Buddha’s power, and to empower the celebrant. Available in black or in 24K gold plate on a silver base. Fits katana or wakizashi; 1.17 inches (29 mm) long.

The ken is a Buddhist sword, a physical manifestation of the power of Buddhism, usually seen emanating from a gokosho and frequently used as a symbol of the Five Kings of Light, Fudo Myo-o being the best known. Available in multiplate, blackened silver, or in 24K gold plate on a silver base. Katana or wakazashi sized, 2.20 inches (56 mm) long.

086 Dragon with ken sword (Kenmaki-ryu). In esoteric Buddhism this symbol represents a manifestation of Fudo Myo-o, Kurikara Ryujin, coiled round a sword.
