The gokosho (Sanskrit: vajra) is a ritual implement in esoteric Buddhism, the chief branches of which are Shingon and Tendai. Implements such as the gokosho are placed on an altar or are held by a celebrant in order to sanctify the space, to symbolize the Buddha’s power, and to empower the celebrant.
